Dove Season

I know that the dove season is almost here and I am looking forward to this new season with my dog Buddy. I’m posting to see if anyone has plans of going out this season with their dogs. I’ll be taking buddy out all season long (when it’s not to hot) and would love to here from some of the other members if they are going, because buddy and I are always looking for other hunters to hunt with, where we can work the dogs in a live hunt scenario.

WOW, it has been a hard road and a successful journey. I want to personally thank Phil at the Arizona Game and Fish for allowing us the opportunity to train and test are dogs at Powers Butte.

Congratulations to Mary Trick and Barb Sampson for receiving Titles on their dogs! With the day's High in the 30's with light rain and water Tempature at 42 F My Titan qualified for the Senior Hunter !!!! He is now the 24th Pudel (Poodle) in history to earn this.

My Misty received her first pass as well.

Congratulations to Larry W. and MHR Laranie's Kodiak Bear SH for passing this weekend at Central Coast and earning Kodys MHR. Kody has also qualified for the RAW!

New NAHRA GMHR

Congratulations to Lance Sennette and Sam on achieving the title of Grand Master Hunting Retriever. Lance and Sam qualified both days in Senior at the Central Coast Hunting Retriever Club annual NAHRA hunt test held at Camp Roberts near Paso Robles, California. Given the limited availability of NAHRA hunt tests in the southwest, this is certainly a grand achievement. Once again, congrats to Lance and GMHR Sentee's Superstar Sam MH!!!

Book Review - Retriever Training: A Back to Basics Approach by Robert Milner

The authors approach to his writing worked well for me. I found it to be an "easy read", with a lot of very useful information. I am already applying may of the exercises prescribed within this book with my lab and am finding it they have made a very large difference in helping her become steadier, and has improved our communication considerably. It is rather obvious that the author does not care much for hunting trials, and gives some pretty good arguments to support his opinion. This book is very focused on training for actual field work, and illustrates a variety of scenarios that can be important not only in the training of my hunting companion, but also her safety.
